starsky
to date, starsky has worked with the following media:
projection, photography, film, video, installation, sound, music, image,
objects, text, politics, graphics, theatre, performance, interactive
systems, control systems, computers, internet, communication, networking Σ
since 1991, starsky has been working with projections in different formations:
slide cinema "dia kino"
dia kino
are the only productions which are finalised, concluded
and not any more modifiable in a live show: they have a defined
beginning and a defined end, they are audiovisual compositions and
designed for a flat surfaceΣ
'lichtmusik',
1993, co-produced with fritz fitzke, show with 8
projectors on a flat surface with sound, 35 min., approximately
3.000 slide images, processed manually over a period of about 3
years.
'radzebutz',
1996, visual production: starsky, sound: Rupert huber /
starsky, show with 8 projectors on a flat surface with sound, 7
min., diploma thesis university of applied arts Vienna.
stage productions
in most cases commissioned productions or co-productions with
theatre, dance, performance or opera, for example with haga susa,
jim whiting, messing, harald jokesch, akemi takeya, paul wenninger,
michael krammer, sonja schmidlehner, michael mautner, messing network, thomas jelinek, tina leisch ...
spatial projections and installations
deal with the creation of environments and three dimensional
settings through using the projector's entire cone of light,
creating additional image layers, spaces within a certain space, and
through constant mutation and variationΣ
see spatial projections for further details
word-light-image-sound-installations
deal with language and the communication, interaction or misinterpretation
of phrasesΣ
"the sentence begins as thinking has come to an end" - to question the phraseology of power.
starting off from the meaningful content, or sometimes the
unsubstantial content of a language or communication, phrases are
chosen and processed in written form or as sound, and then presented
as interactive installations.
≠sprachstücke'
1995 - 1998, co-production with rupert huber (sound, music)
1998 ≠sprachstücke' in berlin podewil
since 1995 starsky has been working on the project
≠zufallsindoktrinator' (random indoctrinator)
live visuals
are projections which are played live to music using different drive
and control technologies, similarly to a musical instrument.
starsky performs different shows live which are however open
productions which are not finalised:
these productions are either works in progress, since starsky has been working on them for several years - over and over disassembling and re-assembling them, or shows which are composed in different combinations and arrangements each time for a live performance.
this is the visual pool, the collection of material which serves as
a base for creating a show and temporary images in a live
performanceΣ

control systems
starsky built her first self-constructed midi control in 1995:
a midi keyboard in combination with Atari and cubase.
since then, this system has been permanently extended and been
operating in various interim versions.
since 1996, starsky has been working on a concept for building and
programming an optimised control system:
'lupa'
- a midi fader console with keys, comprising 141 keys, 141
led displays, 21 faders, 16 lcd, 3 in/out, memory, sequencer,Σ
plus its own software (based on max, jitter, on macintosh), special interfaces
between the computer, projectors and various sensor systems.
'lupa'
is still in development status.
interactives
the midi control is compatible with various sensors and signals. we have therefore been working on developing interactive systems which can be run by the audience. so far, these activities have been concentrated on sound, such as in the
'propaganda machine'.
the
propaganda machine
is a reconstructed midi keyboard, fed with samples from everyday media noises. it can be played by the audience - the players can create their own propaganda.
the online version can be found at http://www.starsky.at/propaganda/index.html (use your keyboard to try)
/ large screen / architectual / strutural / environmental / public projections /
are projections adjusted to a certain architectural setting in
public space (18x18 slides, 6 kW projectors).
since 2000, these
projects are mainly of political content.
